Rubbing shoulders with movie stars!

Last week we played a benefit concert for Young Concert Artists, the wonderful organization that helped us launch our touring career when we were first starting out. The benefit was very graciously hosted by Luciana and Robert Duvall at their beautiful property in Virginia.

We played works by Mendelssohn, Paul Schoenfield, and Astor Piazzola - a Tango to honor Luciana who's from Argentina and is an expert at dancing the tango.

The concert took place in their "barn", a totally gorgeous building that certainly never housed any livestock (or not since a major renovation):

And we stayed overnight in their awesome guest house:

Talking with the Duvalls over lunch (we got to sit at their table!) we discovered that they met in Buenos Aires where they went tango dancing together at a local dance venue and later starred together in the movie, Assassination Tango. Robert's favorite restaurant in Vancouver is Kirin Mandarin where Donna had her wedding banquet! We also discovered that his food of choice is a good burger and that he has a great sense of humor. Luciana is very thoughtful and generous and threw a gorgeous party, overseeing all the decorations and arrangements herself. It was great to meet them and to celebrate YCA with such famous hosts!

Did Luciana dance while you played? Their place looks gorgeous, and it looks and sounds as if you guys had a terrific time as well.

Greetings from your new biggest fan!

For decades he's been revered for his role as the sublime surf enthusiast Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore, giving many moviegoers their first Wagner experience, while inspiring many a conversation to where guys question whether, on the one hand, could he get away with that in real life, and finally how they would want his character as their leader.

Please tell me that you have at least one concert scheduled at the Gardner museum for the Winter/Spring 2010 season.

We have two concerts coming up at the Gardner museum - one on Sunday February 21, 2010 and one on Sunday, April 18, 2010. They're both at 1:30pm and we hope to see you there!

Great! Would it be too much to ask what you will be performing on those two afternoons? I would like to tell some friends about it.

Sure! These concerts at the Gardner museum are part of our "Travels with the Claremont Trio" series. On February 21, we'll be "visiting" France, playing trios by Debussy, Ravel and Faure. On April 18, we'll be featuring music of the Czech composers Dvorak and Smetana. And be sure to stop by to say hello afterwards!

What a memorable experience! I somehow had the feeling that Robert Duvall would be a decent, likable person and a gracious host. Sometimes you just get that feeling about certain movie stars, though not others.

Your blogs are always a joy to visit; your descriptions are lively, enthusiastic, and observant. Thank you for sharing your active lives with your "extended family" of loyal fans.
