Last night we played in Lakewood, Colorado (a suburb of Denver) at the Lakewood Cultural Center. There's the Denver skyline on the left.
After the concert we caught up with some old friends, Sarah and Randy Levine. Sarah (or Dr. Levine, as we called her then) was the head of Emily's and my grade school, Belmont Day School before she relocated to beautiful Colorado. Our trio has gone back to perform at BDS and we will be artists-in-residence there next year!
Colorado is one of my favorite places in the world. When I was growing up, my family took cross-country road trips to many of the national parks out west (Rocky Mountain, Glacier, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon etc...) so I've always loved the mountains. Our good friends, Sherry and Dave Farny, owned two amazing ranches in Telluride and Grand Junction, Colorado, where I spent many of my happiest days riding horses as a kid. So I was glad to spend a couple of days surrounded by mountains again.
But I was also happy when our plane from Denver touched down back home in NYC today!!! When we left home a week ago, we weren't so lucky. Our flight from New York to Michigan for a concert at Michigan State University was canceled due to the huge snow and ice storm that hit the Northeast. Unable to rebook on a flight that would get us there in time for the concert, we had to rent a car and drive to Michigan (an 11 hour trip!)

The high altitude of the Denver region would be ideal for broadcasting amateur pirate radio (AM/FM/SW) with a mobile transmitter, disguised as a Missy Happy ice cream truck, that would crank out a signal beyond the 3-mile radius mandated by the FCC. The format would consist of your music & the vanguard of other young classical performers. Take back the airwaves before we're inundated with more American Idol wannabes. Ruskies, Oh, Canada and Julliard grads...UNITE! Just refrain from potty talk on-air to express oneself, and keep a watchful eye out for the cops =O
Did you know that the Lansing State Journal reported about your marathon drive to East Lansing from New York City? They claim that New York's weather problem dealt a triple blow to the Wharton Center's concerts that weekend. One performance was cancelled, another took place with a substituted soloist, and yours took place as scheduled--because of wht the Journal referred to as a 12 (not 11) hour drive from New York City!

I have heard a rumor to the effect that when Dr. Sarah Levine did mock interviews with each of Julia and Emily before they went for interviews at possible schools to attend after Belmont Day School, she gave each of them a very gooey, sticky, messy piece of chocolate to see how they would deal with this during the course of the interview. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Judi, myself, & my friends certainly enjoyed talking with the three of you after the Lakewood concert. We hope to see you in the Four Corners region again soon, perhaps once more at the Moab Music Festival. Since we now live in Moab (moving from Chicago six months ago), it was interesting to read Julie's comments about the fun she had vacationing in western Colorado when she was younger. We'll keep the light on for you at our place on Alberta Ct. Take care.
Moab Marc
Marc,
Why don't you ask the folks who run the Moab Music Festival to invite the Claremont Trio back again next summer? All of us who like to visit Moab sure would be thrilled with that!
