Brahms Double with Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra

Last weekend Julie and I performed the Brahms Double Concerto with the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and their wonderful conductor Jimmy Yannatos. Very exciting, and a bit different from the trio concerts we're used to! With about 80 young enthusiastic string players (and full wind and brass sections of course), that group makes SOUND, and so we did our best to keep up :-)

The fun part of the story: our father, a great amateur violist, was principal violist in the HRO for another performance of the Brahms Double many many years ago (before we were even born...). Yo-Yo Ma and Lynn Chang were the soloists back then, and Jimmy conducted that performance as well. I took a few lessons with Lynn Chang many years ago, and his daughter was the principal violist at our concert. He, himself, was in the audience. Wow... small world.

Me, Jimmy, Julie

Am I correct that you will not perform at all this Spring at the Gardner?

Will you perform again soon again in Boston, either individually or as a trio?

I was at your concert and you guys were FANTASTIC!!!!!!! Surely the equal of Lynn Chang and Yo Yo Ma back in 1976!!!!!!!

Persis

P.S. The conductor spells his name "Yannatos". By the way his wife's first name is Nyia, which combines the abbreviations for New York and Iowa.

Dear Histfan,

The Claremont Trio will be performing a complete Brahms and Schumann Trio cycle at the Gardner Museum in three concerts--October 21, 2007; January 13, 2008; and March 16, 2008. If you want to hear them sooner in Massachusetts, you can hear them on Saturday, January 13, in Worcester Massachusetts. And this summer you will be able to hear them in Rockport, Massachusetts on June 21, 2007.

Dear Emily and Julie,

The Brahms Double on December 1 was absolutely fantastic! Having been there at the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra concert back in 1976, I can assure you that your performance was even better than Lynn Chang's and Yo Yo Ma's!

Mavis
